โWhat an idiot I was.โ She huffed a watery breath. โTo believe you were getting the hint, getting why I had to do what I did. To believe a real happy ending could happen to me.โ Her mouth pinched into a thin line before she mumbled, mostly to herself, โI was so naรฏve.โ
I stared at her dumbly as she waited for my reply.
โNoah, Iโve been trying to talk myself out of misjudging you, of not giving you a fair chance.โ She twisted her fingers.
โYou made it feel so real, this affection for me.โ
My fists clenched, the fingers digging into my flesh. With as much restraint as I could muster against these hurtful
accusations, I answered, โAlda, I think you should take a moment and listen to me before you say something both of us will regret.โ
โRegret what? Saying to your face how you left me when I needed you?โ
Evidently, grudges were indiscriminate and they dug roots down in both our souls.
She hid her face with her palms then raked her fingers through her hair, slowly moving her gaze from the covers to me.
โWhy are we doing this, Noah? Huh? What am I to you? Am I a toy? A plaything to use and then write stories about?โ
If words could kill, Iโd be bleeding to death on the floor right then and there.
Shani Haim has been a romantic at heart for as long as she can remember.
One of her greatest passions has always been reading, and she devoured anything that swept her away to faraway places.
From reading she made the transition to writing, falling in love with her flawed, broken and full of soul characters one happily-ever-after at a time.
When she’s not swooning over book boyfriends, she’s practicing yoga, drinking unhealthy amount of coffee, or watching Netflix with her husband in their Tel Aviv home.
