REVIEW ➞ Star-Crossed Secrets by Kali Brixton

BLURB ➞

By day, I, Everleigh Greene, am a dutiful elementary teacher.

By night, I become Madam Isis, the unattainable ice queen at RISE.

Co-owning a gentlemen’s club with my best friends was supposed to grant us all freedom. So, why does it feel like my wings are being clipped, one feather at a time?

I conceal my identity so my family won’t know where I spend my nights. I put on a brave face so my girls can’t see how their fortress of freedom shackles me. The hardest one of all to wear is the mask of indifference whenever he’s near.

The man I can’t have. The one who’s promised to another.

I tell myself that I can keep up this charade, that I can be two people—even that I can stop loving him.

But aren’t the saddest lies the ones we tell ourselves?

But she was completely off-limits…until now.

ARC REVIEW ➞

Since the beginning I have been dying for Everleigh and Luca’s story, I wanted to know about the tension and the history between them. Though, going into this book I was definitely not on team Luca and he had to do a lot of convincing to make me fall for him.

The first 30% or so of the book was in the past and provided a lot of backstory to Luca and Everleigh’s relationship in college and what happened between them. There were times I found the beginning a little slow, however, things do pick up when the book jumps six years to the present time.

I truly loved Everleigh. She is a fighter and a woman who is full of sass. She is caring, loving, and protecting. She has a beautiful heart and will do anything she can to help those in her life. Luca, well I hated him, then loved him, then hated him, then loved him again. Together their chemistry is explosive, the tension, the banter. It was all perfect. Even after years apart there is still chemistry between them, however, there are many things they both need to overcome and talk about before they can ever think about acting upon it.

If you’re looking for a slow burn, suspenseful, angsty, brother’s best friend/best friends brother romance this is one to check out! I can’t wait for the next two books in this series!
